Workshop Testimonials

The weekend workshop with Ernesta Corvino was truly great. Many hours of class work over the 2 days and much valuable information. Ernesta’s knowledge of dance technique and history is the culmination of a lifetime in dance and a family dynasty that began with her father, Alfredo Corvino. A class with Ernesta means you will work hard, learn, and have fun doing it. She has a keen eye and can help dancers at any level. The new studio is gorgeous and well equipped. And the hospitality provided by Andra and Ernie is gracious and warm. -Gerry S.

The Corvino Ballet Sleepover Weekend Workshop was among the most inspiring, practically useful and satisfying workshops I have ever attended. The art form of ballet was addressed holistically with a superb blend of enormously valuable information, healthy, supportive perspective, and fun. My commitment to ballet as a teacher was re-invigorated, I enjoyed being in the beautiful countryside with the Corvinos, and I left feeling happy.
-Catherine G.

The Corvino Ballet Workshop was an amazing experience. I had such a great time learning in an atmosphere that was filled with kindness, sincerity and inspiration. I HIGHLY recommend this workshop to anyone who is interested in expanding and strengthening their knowledge of Ballet Technique, Ballet's origins and learning about the history of the Corvino Approach. In addition to all of the great knowledge that you gain during the workshop I would be remiss if I didn't  mention how much fun we had as well. The Corvino's warmth and hospitality is unsurpassed. I am grateful to have not only discovered the Corvino Approach but also grateful to have met two amazing people. Thank you Andra and Ernesta! -Amos M.

So much to learn, so little time. Thank you Andra Corvino & Ernesta Corvino for a wonderful weekend of pedagogy, ballet, character, baroque, pointe, meeting new friends and reconnecting with the ones I haven't seen in a long time. Just what I needed to continue my journey. - Andrea C.

The Corvino Weekend was an inspiring two-days of work hard, play hard. Feeling a little sore from the ballet, character and Baroque classes but happy to meet new friends, connect with old acquaintances and feel all the wiser from the discussions on pedagogy and dance history. - Dian D.

A wonderful weekend of ballet, character & Baroque dance, pedagogy, a heartwarming film made by Ernie about the life of Mr Corvino & his legacy, & great conversation!
- Nicole C.

The Corvino Ballet training method is pure and exacting, yet suited to any body and dancers at all levels. Ernesta and Andra articulate the principles with clarity and real logic while also weaving musicality, rhythm, and a joy of dancing through even the most "nitty-gritty" of movement phrases. The Corvino classes leave you feeling very confident and light. Whether you're a professional dancer in need of a tune-up or someone looking to learn the basics, there is something in these classes for you. I recently went to the Corvino home for a weekend-long pedagogy workshop. When Andra and Ernesta host these workshops at their gorgeous home in Connecticut, they provide not only informative pedagogical lectures, discussions of proper technique, a wonderful open studio, and classes, but also truly great company, comfortable lodging, and good food! It's a dancer retreat in a beautiful setting, hosted by two extremely kind and generous people. Five stars! -Alexis B.

I recently participated in the Weekend Sleepover Classical Composition Workshop with Ernesta and Andra Corvino. I have previously attended the pedagogy and children's syllabus workshops. The classical composition workshop included daily class, discussion of some choreographic elements and methods along with choreographic assignments given with time to work, share and re-work in  a supportive atmosphere. Evenings were filled with good food and company. Benefits abound whether you are an experienced dancer/choreographer or a novice. The attention and time given by Ernie and Andra to each student is invaluable and is what allows for growth at any level.
As a dancer coming from a background in modern dance and musical theater, I have some familiarity with different ways of making dance, but found it very useful to learn and practice some methods of how to compose a dance piece with classical conventions and music, and to dance it as well. These skills are particularly applicable to teachers like myself who are responsible for teaching various groups and for choreographing many recital pieces per year. Every and any performer and student will learn many things simply from the act of putting classical steps together in a musical and dynamic way so it can be performed and taught. (Try and you'll see.)
Since I have been taking ballet class regularly with the Corvinos for the last couple of years, I speak now not just of the workshops but generally with appreciation. The expansion of my understanding and the improvement in technical clarity and quality af my own dancing and teaching attest to the value of their guidance and teaching. You can trust that the Corvinos will be articulate and caring with keen eyes and action for what the student needs to progress in the selected focus - be it technique, musicality, composition, etc. They are the rare individuals who really see, teach and change their students with inspiration, insight and love.-Erin H. J.

I recently participated in the first ever Ballet Sleepover Classical Composition Weekend workshop, and I highly recommend it for everyone who is interested in ballet and choreography.
By the end of the weekend I had created a short dance using classical ballet vocabulary and music and even received homework for how to continue the process to further develop that piece and to create another. I came away from the weekend feeling a sense of accomplishment, inspiration, and excitement for the future.
Each day of the workshop entailed a morning ballet class with personal attention and corrections after, followed by a delicious lunch and time spent learning how to listen and write down the structure of a short piece of chosen classical music along with potential classical ballet vocabulary choices and options. We then each had time to work alone to create and share after which we received individual coaching on how certain transitions or steps or ideas might be expanded or extended or made easier or more effective or interesting while remaining true to and open to each student’s ideas. The evening meal and breakfast lunch and dinner the second day were also tasty and delightful, full of community, lively conversation and laughter.
I have had the pleasure of learning from the Corvino’s for the last three years after discovering them during the Pandemic. Ernesta and Andra Corvino are two of the best teachers I have had! They are legendary for a reason, and although their expertise and experience are humbling, they are approachable and teach with thought, care, creativity, love, beautiful musicality and generosity. They  share their wealth of expertise, humor, insight, creativity, perception and history, and their love of ballet is infectious because they know what works, and when students feel and see themselves and others improving, it is exciting and fulfilling. Their class appeals to all levels, from beginner to professional; they know how to break down the basics with rich details without ever losing the dancing, and the way they teach empowers their students. Their approach to learning ballet and particularly choreography creates Agency, and in fact their regular ballet class often will include moments where students choreograph their own battement, frappe or petite allegro combination.
It is truly a gift to study with the Corvino’s, and I absolutely recommend their classes and workshops. -Faith K.
